Biography:
Jay Shi has enjoyed marksmanship from a young age. Growing up in China, he would play with toy guns like many young children. After emigrating to the U.S., he started shooting archery. It wasn’t until his adult life that he began shooting firearms.
He started off shooting center fire rifle then discovered Olympic style pistol shooting and started to self tech himself through YouTube videos. He then joined the Phoenix Rod and Gun Club where John Vurek, former USA Shooting team member, helped him hone in on his shooting skills.
Jay exceled in the sport and made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Games. His strong suit was the free pistol event but after Rio, the event was discontinued from the Olympic Games. Jay has spent the past few years improving his air pistol game and most recently competed at the ISSF 2023 World Championships in the event.
When Jay is not training, he is working on his impressive career in the information technology field. He is currently a business analyst for Arizona State University, his alma mater.
