COLO SPRGS, CO (May 31, 2023) – USA Shooting announces the reorganization of the National Pistol Program as Brent McPherson assumes the role of National Pistol Program Manager and Jason Turner as the Assistant National Pistol Program Manager and National Pistol Team coach.
“USA Shooting is taking a team approach toward the dynamic and complex functions of the program, as well as a much-needed injection of technical coaching skills,” said Craig Kozeniesky, Chief Executive Officer of USA Shooting. “As we enter into this intensive period of our Path to Paris for the 2024 games, this reorganization enables us to focus on our competitive athletes at the highest elite level while developing out the next generation of shooters.”
McPherson will be responsible for managing the national, junior, and developmental pistol programs. He will also maintain affiliations with clubs, programs, and universities nationwide.
McPherson has been involved with USA Shooting for around 11 years. He started volunteering and coaching for the National Training Center Shooting Club (NTCSC) then become a range manager for USA Shooting. He moved from a range manager position to director of youth programs and coaches. Then in 2021 he assumed the role of chief operating officer.
McPherson also served as interim chief executive officer in 2022. He is also currently the President and Advance Pistol Coach for the NTCSC.
Jason Turner will primarily be responsible for training, coaching, and traveling with the national team to domestic and international competitions.
Jason Turner also has a storied career with USA Shooting. He became a resident pistol athlete at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1996. He trained at the USOPTC and competed in three separate games, earning a bronze medal in Men’s 10m Air Pistol at the 2008 Beijing Games.
Turner has previously worked with the National Pistol Team and most recently coached the Olympians at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
Turner and McPherson assumed roles as of May 23, 2023.
